What We Do

Here at The Beauty Prescription, we believe that wellness, health, and beauty are intentions. Its no secret that today's society continues to place an emphasis on appearance, but we all want to be recognized for who we are and not just how we look. Discipline, personal empowerment, and optimism are the keys to making this happen. By becoming fully aware of the beauty within you and allowing yourself to cultivate love, confidence, purpose, and compassion, your inner health will begin to shape your physical self and you'll be astonished by how the world responds to you!

The Beauty-Brain Loop

There is so much more to being "beautiful" than physical appearance! Your emotional health, self-esteem, and self-confidence all shape your physical beauty. And at the same time, your health, appearance, and physical well-being affect your state of mind. This never-ending cycle is what we like to call The Beauty-Brain Loop. Mastering The Beauty-Brain Loop will put you in charge not only of how you see yourself, but of how others see you!

Inner Beauty

Your inner beauty includes your mental and emotional self-awareness, self-esteem, and confidence. Inner beauty means constantly taking an honest personal inventor of how you look and how you feel about yourself. It means loving your strengths and accepting your weaknesses, changing what you can and accepting what you cannot. It's your attitude toward the world, your cognitive skills in handling stress, and your ability to see beauty in the world around you.

Health

Part of truly loving yourself is taking care of your body from head-to-toe and from gut-to-skin. Physical health is not only shaped by your exercise habits, nutrition, and sleep, but also how you keep up with your medical problems and prevent/treat them. As physicians (well, one of us is *almost* a physician), we take this part of the loop extra seriously!! Taking good care of and protecting your body while minimizing your stress promotes beauty. Good health is beautiful!

Outer Beauty

Ahhhh yes. The most infamous member of the Beauty-Brain Loop. Your outer beauty is your appearance-- your skin, hair, fitness, clothes, nails, makeup, etc. Its the packaging that both conceals and advertises the woman within! And while it often gets a bad rap, caring about your outer beauty is NOT superficial. It is only superficial if it is the only thing you care about. We are here to remind you that it's OK to want to look your best!

Look good --> feel good --> BE BEAUTIFUL.

Environment

And last but certainly not least... Nowhere is the power of The Beauty-Brain Loop more obvious than in how your environment responds to you. You can see it all around you: people who feel good not only look good, but are also magnetic. The environment falls in line for them, and luck seems to break their way. But it's not luck, its the power some people people have to make other people feel good and want to return the favor. This is the reward channel of the loop-- when its giving you positive feedback, you feel fantastic mentally and physically. Things aren't going your way? It becomes a lot more challenging to feel that way. If you purposely surround yourself with beauty, we have no doubt that some of that beauty will rub off on you!

Blurring the Line Between
Inside & Out

The field of psychiatry generally focuses on inner diseases of the mind, whereas dermatology focuses on outer diseases of the skin. But, did you know that how you physically look can directly and concretely change your emotions and your spiritual condition, and vice versa? The state of your body is a direct outgrowth of what is happening emotionally or what's going on in your life. In fact, the same fetal tissue that forms your brain and nervous tissue also forms your skin!

The Beauty-Brain Loop encompasses the deep pathways that transmit information between the mind and the body. This connection has long been studied in a field called psychodermatology, where everything from how mental/emotional states affect skin health to how disease can be produced from stress hormones to self-mutilation is investigated. While not precisely psychodermatologic experts ourselves, our individual expertises places us in a unique position to provide you with hints, tips and tricks to become more beautiful from anywhere along the psychiatric-to-dermatologic spectrum. We hope that you will join us on this journey to become your most beautiful self!
